Use these 6th grade journaling prompts to give your students a safe, comfortable space to consider their thoughts and opinions without worrying about judgment from others! If you could take any animal from the zoo home as a pet, which would you choose—and why?

What inspired you to do it? Write a short story about the future. How will daily life be different 50 years from now? What is the most important part of being a good friend?

If you could go back in time to witness any single historical event, which would you choose? If you could invent any one thing, what would you create? How would you create it? Write about a time when you were not totally truthful with someone. How did you resolve the situation?

Do you consider yourself artistic? Why or why not? Do you consider yourself athletic? Would you rather spend time relaxing by yourself or with a group of friends? What does it mean to be a good citizen of a community?

What is something that would surprise your classmates about you?
